When I was young I spent a lot of time at the local parks playing softball on the baseball diamond, or on the basketball shooting hoops. Playing organized sports for Parks and Recreation was a big part of my life as a child, and I hope for it to be a big part of my kids lives too.
But I’ve noticed that as times have gotten tough, the local parks, and playing fields near my home and in my town have declined in their up-keep. And because so many towns have faced dramatic budget cuts due to the decline in the economy, it’s not shocking that these normally maintained locations have gone untouched. And unfortunately with that comes the loss of a central location for communities to gather, whether it be to walk the dog, hang out on the playground with other kids and parents, or even weekend recreational league game play. So how can you help with improving your own community? By simply getting involved.
And here’s how. Embrace the spirit of making a difference by joining the Kellogg’s Frosted Flakes Earn Your Stripes program. This program has initiated a call-to-action for a national field renovation program that kicks off TODAY, Super Bowl Sunday. And it’s all going to start with a simple commercial entitled “Plant a Seed”.
The ad focuses on the role we all play in building stronger communities and making a difference in kids’ lives. Because the Earn Your Stripes program is about inspiring kids to be their very best, “Plant a Seed” shows that before anyone can earn a single stripe, someone has to plant a seed and help give kids places to realize their promise and potential.
The field renovation initiative will make over approximately 50 fields across the United States to help provide better places for families to stay active. Through this program, fields will once again become central and vibrant places of activity and community in cities and towns across the country.
